I started to write here in January 2007 it’s nearly 4 years ago. You see I’m not very productive blogger. Nevertheless i wrote some interesting things which have attracted some people or comments. Here some of them chronologically:

• I’ve created a word socialolism and was cited on some link aggregaters relatively popular.
• I was on of the  first hwo checked some new features of Geni.com and gathered their attention, so they send me a T-shirt
• I’ve made an online  calendar of Russian beauties which is unfortunately dessapeared with hosted site. However  i have a picture of it cover.
• I wrote about my time with my son as my wive was away. Part one and part two.
• I have introduced new Wordpress Plugin which definitive need next update right now. I know, i know. I have it on my task list.
• In 2008 we discussed school education in germany
• Then many people found interesting my post about duplication of magento installation. I plan to do new relese on this topic.
• And Last but not least I wrote about Software RAID on linux, installations of JBoss and SSH tunels.

I’ve learned pretty much and i tried different themes. I think in the future i will write more and more technical stuff. So e.g. Java comes to short so far also web technologies where not covered while i have to do with them relatively often.

User statistic

My blog has humble user statistic. This is explainable. My blog has lot spread of themes and i has suffered from the movement to new domain a year ago.  However the number of visitors id growing. So i had 1548 unique visitors  in last 30 days here.

A maximum of visitior per day what this site experienced was 1500 per day. I believe it was post about Jboss installation (mentioned above) which passes pre-selection on some link composing site.

tar

Tar archives are the most common way of distributing bundles of files under Linux or UNIX. A .tar file is simply a bundle of files packaged with GNU tar program. To extract such files use following:

tar xf somearchive.tar
tar xvf somearchive.tar

• Provide option f if you want to extract content of files. Tar (from tape archive) has long history and was intended to work with tape media, so when you omit f tar tries to work with tape device.
• v- stands for verbose. List all the files by extract process.
• x- Extract command

Before extracting you may be interested in Looking inside of tar. Do it with option “t” :

tar tf archive.tar

gzip

Often tar-files are also compressed. One of the most known compressed formats is GNU Zip (gzip).  Tar bundeld and zipped file would  normally  have extension .tar.gz. To extract such files you can use tar with  “z” option, which causes tar to automatically invoke gzip. Modify abow example  and you get able to extract tar.gz  files too.

tar -xzf somearchive.tar.gz

In old tar version the “z” option is may be not available. In that case just use UNIX pipes:

gzip -dc target.tar.gz | tar xf -

Meaning of gzip options

• d – Do decompress!
• c – write to console (So that tar can take it from there )
• t – Tests file integrity
• l – lists archive file information

bzip2

Sometimes you can find files ending with .tar.bz2. That are files packaged with bzip (a block-sorting file compressor). Use it like gzip

tar xjvf filename.tar.bz2

Options d,c,t have the same meaning. More on Man pages.

zcat

Some files have .tar.Z endings. They can be extracted by

zcat somearchive.tar.Z | tar xf -

Vyacheslav Nikonov

If you live somewhere in the “West”, you may often hear or read something bad about Russians. What you hear and read is mostly “something like truth”.  Mostly these “news” are presented in a way, so that they cause bad opinnion about Russia. I personally don’t like it.

Therefore I found the following citation interesting, funny and truth. Vyacheslav Nikonov, a prominent Russian commentator, has quoted his Canadian friend, who came up with the following explanation of Russophobia:

The main problem is that these Russians have white skin. If they had been green, or pink, or came from Mars…or had

Don’t know them?

The first one is the actual President of Russian Federation – Dmitry Medvedev, the second one, is the latest Russian Tsar -Nicholas II. Nicholas II was executed by Bolsheviks in 1918.

However I found this similarity very funny but also somehow strange. Maybe beacuse of history. Nicholas II stands for last moments of non communistic Russia . History has made Nicholas II and his whole family (which was executed too)  very symbolic. It’s difficult to explain. However very strange for me.

This is a personal blog. Isn`t? – Yes. Can I write my personal opinion in my personal blog? Let me think… Of course! Should my personal opinion be somehow conform to the mainstream opinion? – I think you should know the answer

However, during Google continues to mark my site with malware warnings (), because the Google test of cleaned sites takes Sooooooo Looong. , I want to tell you one story, concerning a theme which scares me already for a long time. Don’t laugh, but I wanna speak about school education in Germany.

Maybe you heard already about Pisa Study Results of German “Schuler”? If not, I tell you, their results are really not impressive. How it comes…? Read in the following…

Historical

After the WW2 in West and East Germany began denazification. Germans have done good work and succeeded in that by throwing out everything of the Third Reich. Also the education methods in the Third Reich where considered as unappropriate, I’m not an expert but can imagine that they can appear as too strikt, too idealized for modern times. And therefore totaly unappropriate for modern children. The same happened also after the “unification of Germany” in truly unification is the wrong word, West Germany incorporated East Germany. And of cause education concepts of the “East-Block” (also of the enemy) where thrown out of the window, not even to look on them.

Personal Impression

If I look around and speak with my friends, who have children in school age, I gain the opinion that, the primary school is a place where children are doing everything, except of learning.

So I’m also a big friend of playing. But excuse me, if my son goes to school, I expect that he learns something there! In best case, my children should can read and write and simple math after the first year in school not after the third or even fifth one!

It’s nothing impossible for every child! But children have to be motivated to learn, to be smart, to be educated. I don’t wanna say they should be compeled to learn, mostly it won`t have much success without motivation, but teachers and parents have to be strikt with that in every case.

However, it’s very difficult to be a teacher in our times, teachers have NO rights and might over their pupil, further they really believe ( because it is taught them at the university) that children can learn better without the stress of competition and without any effort and any pressure to perform at least in the beginning of the school. Bullshit! Children love to succeed, love competition. To compete, to win, to learn and to enjoy-this  is their natural urge, I can see it every day, when I look at my little son.

But let me tell you one story of many, which finally lead me to write this article, one story I heard today.

The Story and the Questions

One friend of my wife has a child, who is  the age of 5. The girl goes to the normal German preschool everyday, where they are doing something, as I think playing Once a week the same child also goes to a Russian preschool called “Azbuka”. Now the question: In which language does that child read? The Answer is indeed Russian!

The next question is: What the hell are they doing at the German preschool? With the same success if not better this child could play 5 days a week at a playground…

In my opinion these children are under-cultivated by the German education system in their best years! And many parents have no time to educate children at home because they are working hardly.
P.S. I remember my first “Gymnasium” class teacher, who did laughed at me, when I talked to him that German School Education is far not the best in the world. It  was few years before the first smashing Pisa Study got publicity.

Back to this blog. As you know WordPress 2.5 is out. And somehow there are no security updates at that time. How it comes? Did the WordPress guys didn’t their work really good this time?   Seems to be. So I consider to upgrade in the next time.

DIGG Effect

Eric Enge has wrote very good article about succes on digg. Some of details he presents my be not true at the moment, because DIGG evolves and changes internal algorithms. However some facts are really interesting.

As he says, stories that where able to reach the digg home page receive an average of 129 links, and more than 10,000 visitors in an hour. Some stories have brought even more than 1,000 links and 100,000 visitors. This shows how important DIGG is and why there are so many legend and so much attention from SEOs. So it has happened many times that stories which have made the home page, have brought the server of the story site can’t handle the traffic load. This is well known phenomena is known as the “Digg Effect”.

Of cause the quality of this kind of visitors is “bad”. Don’t expect that they will by your products and click Ads. Do not expect big growth in comments, DIGG users often comment regarding a site on digg itself instead of on the dugg website. Digg users comes to see only that what they would inspect in the story description on DIGG itself.

I don’t wanna be a Digger

So after reading several articles about how to success on DIGG i realized that it would take very very very much time. So as every body know time is money, but moreover time is life! In my opinion the truly success on DIGG starting from null will deserve much to much time in comparison to the revenue.
Personally I don’t have much time and will not spend it to fullish site like DIGG, voting for silly topics of US tanagers So at the moment and I think also in the future will not spend much time on DIGG or other communities.

I mean isn’t it better to spend time to create wonderful content? It would give you personal much more satisfaction than any DIGG effect. But however good content have in any case good chance to achieve one DIGG effect after another!
So by by DIGG, may others vote for my content, I will not spend my life for Digging

But what happens that time in the Air? For example at Sunday there was extreme landing of aircraft (A-320) by having strongest side wind. As we see on the video belov, aircrafts can very quick get out of control by such extreme crosswinds, especially if wind changes abrupt.

Some amateurs catches such very difficult landing attempt of an Airbus 320 in Hamburg Airport on film.

Update

Nobody was injured. Experts consider pilot failure as possible cause, internal investigation has begun. The young copilot lady (24) was at the rudder at the landing attempt and the Captain (39) could pulled the aircraft up in the last moment. Then he land successful on the other race board of Hamburg airport.

So I heard on some local radio.

I red some comments on socialomania and must say that didn’t expect that, so many people do agree with me in the point that some kind of addiction exist with that all web 2.0 stuff and said that they have at least some of the defined symptoms. Thought Socilaolism article had also humorous site. So do not take is for ultimate truth. However web2.0 consumes time.

Dear reader did you also notice how many time consumes social-networking?

Addicted or not why it is so? Why do we spend so much time in social networks? I think modern people have not much time to spend it with living friends (which is not so good). This lies almost in the fact that doing something with people directly require synchronization of all participants. Social networking allows you to stay in touch asynchronously, it allows you to do your “social doing” when you have time, at least it should. But as we see this happens it time when you have to do other things and work, in effect we the social doing over internet may degrade to socialolism or socialomania or whatever you call it.

Definition

Socialolism is a strong addiction to Internet applications of social nature. Malignant versions of Socialolism arise just in that times when the affected person has many boring things to do (e.g. Work), even when that things are important.

Common Symptoms

There are some common Symptoms of Socialolism, knowing them will help you to identify the problem.

• Strong desire to open browser and check messages in some Social network during a small pause in Work (e.g. build or deployment process).
• Lingering and strong desire to open own blog or site and look for new comments.
  • Worst: Desire is still there when there are no new comments
  • Worstiest: Desire is still there, even there are newer been some comment on this site before.
• Watching also Youtube videos, that are related to video you actually receives form your colleague.
• Writing new post in your blog during work time.
• Updating your profile in Social-Network-Site instead of doing important homework.
• Checking every digg.com like site on new votes for stories committed by concerned person.
• Opening browser (for very very last time) just before start of durable and boring business.
• Reading Wikipedia more than intentionally intended.
• More than onece a day check of visitor statistic on own sites.

Known places of danger on the Internet

Every addiction has some objects that povoke concerned people. The places where socialolists (people afflicted with socialolism) try to satisfy their addiction are well known. That are blogs (especially own ), Forums, Classmate and Co-Worker networks, Youtube like sites and the whole palette of web2.0 sites like digg.com wich provide social components.

Demarcation of Concepts

Socialolism is not so bad like internetmania which is considered as disease. No, it rather bad consuetude or addiction. It should also not be mistaken for egosurfing, wikipediholism or even photo-lurking. Sure this can have relation, but these sings are real strange. Against them socialism should know nearly every modern Internet user i think. Such statistic bases of cause on my personal notice .

Nevertheless Socialolism must be very close to problems like luck of concentration, idleness and maybe that’s the point!

How to cure

I’m not sure. Don’t connect to Internet? Sure this helps, but it is not pro rata. Just try to do such thing that are more interesting than Social sites? It’s often impossible. Hope to provide you some exercises against socialolism in the future.
