Hello friends, I’m pleasure to report progress in development of wPopularity plug-in. Yesterday I took some time just for me and wPopularity. After hours of bootstrap debugging (change, ftp upload, look ofr changes) of wPopularity I finally understood why activation problems occurred. Also I refactored the plugin. But i’m still not at the and. The next released version is at least 1.0.0. I do not plan to test it on Wordpress version below 2....

What if you get google malware notification?

At first, it is a quite bad feeling. All pages of holbreich.de1 flow out of google index :(. According to Murphy’s Law that happened when I was at some seminar and therefore had not time for my personal page. Google is kindly enough and tries to contact you in such case, when they about to throw your site out of the index because your site is malware infected. In such one unlucky case you get the Malware Notification....

Magento 0.9....

Yesterday I tried Magento again. As I tried it last time it was a very very slow and buggy CMS. However last days I played with the brand new Version 0.9.17740 of it and I was positive surprized. There are only few bugs remained in that late version, even if I was still able to find some of them. Furthermore Magento-people have really speed their System up, which was enormously important to my eyes....

DIGG Effect is worth it?

Eric Enge has wrote very good article about success on digg. Some of the details he presents are maybe not true anymore because DIGG evolves and changes internal algorithms. However, some facts are really interesting. As he says, stories that were able to reach the DIGG home page receive an average of 129 links, and more than 10,000 visitors in an hour. Some stories have brought even more than 1,000 links and 100,000 visitors....

Success factors in social (News) communities

Initially, I just wanted to report about some experience on Crowd news platform - DIGG, but then i noticed that I try to cover at least two different topics in one post, so I decided to split. In that article, I will cover key factors of success on news-driven social communities like well-known DIGG and will cover my first serious steps with DIGG in the next article. Currently, I’m the number 49 of top users of the Russian DIGG sister RDS1, therefore I think to have some experience and some kind of instinctive feeling for mechanisms in such communities....

Yahoo Buzz launched

Yahoo Buzz is launched. This should be probably the Yahoo’s answer to Digg. Let’s prove this theory. At first look on Yahoo Buzz we see several categories of news and voting buttons aside of them with the ability to voting up. Digg principle so far. The difference of the new Yahoo service is that Yahoo Buzz seemed to be intended to work closely with Yahoo’s already existing news providers and services....

Mark Meta widget with "nofollow"

Due SEO considerations it is not recommended (e.g. by Matt Cutts) to spend precious page rank on links like log-in, register forms, rss pages and other meta stuff. One should mark them as nofollow and that is one example where nofollow attribute can be turned in something useful. Nearly every Wordpress blog would have something like Meta section in the sidebar, every link there should be marked as nofollow. Unfortunately they are not coded in one widget, they are distributed over two files in the standard wordpress installation....
